Expert advice
Alexandre Desoutter, spokesperson for HelloSafe in Canada:
"It seems that a significant shift has occurred among Ontarians this summer. The prevailing sentiment reveals a notable decline in vacation plans among residents of Ontario. Factors such as ongoing economic uncertainties, lingering concerns over public health, and the desire to prioritize safety and well-being have culminated in fewer individuals opting for vacations. This shift reflects a cautious approach by Ontarians who are prioritizing their immediate surroundings and seeking alternative ways to unwind and rejuvenate closer to home".
35% of Ontarians plan summer vacation of only one week
When we look at the average number of weeks Ontarians plan to spend on their summer holidays, we see that :
- The shortest vacation periods are the most popular with Ontarians: 35.3% of those surveyed plan to travel for 1 week, while 5.9% will spend 3 weeks on vacation.
- In parallel, one in five Ontarians (21%) still plan summer vacations of less than a week.
- Finally, 17.6% of respondents will opt for a vacation lasting longer than 3 weeks.
