Who provides UofT dental insurance?
The University of Tronto Students’ Union (UTSU) administers a comprehensive Health and Dental Plan, which offers exceptional mental health and dental insurance to all full-time undergraduate students. When compared to other student association plans in Canada, it stands out for its excellent benefits.
This plan encompasses a wide range of services, providing either full or partial coverage for various treatments not included in provincial health care OHIP. International Students benefit from dual coverage, including the UTSU Health Plan and the University Health Insurance Plan (UHIP).
Mandatory Health and dental Plan fees are automatically included in your tuition. Still, there is an option to opt out if you can demonstrate proof of alternative extended health insurance coverage.
Essentially, if you are already covered by an equivalent health and dental plan, such as one offered through a parent's or spouse's employee benefit plan, or a plan provided by your band council or Health Canada, you have the option to decline participation in this plan.
Is health and dental insurance mandatory for international students?
Health insurance requirements for international students in Canada may vary depending on the province or territory you are studying in and the length of your stay. However, in general, international students in Canada typically must have some form of health insurance coverage, even for short-term study programs.
In some provinces, such as British Columbia, Alberta, and Manitoba, international students are required to enroll in a provincial health insurance plan like the Medical Services Plan or Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan or purchase private health insurance that meets certain criteria.
