What is the vaccination passport?
The vaccination passport is an official document which formally indicates that a person is fully vaccinated against COVID-19. It can be a physical or digital document with a QR code. Thanks to this vaccination passport, people are authorized to travel more freely and have access to certain public spaces and events without having to get tested.
These restrictions are different in all countries and there is a wide variety of ways in which the vaccination passport is applied.
What do the different categories on this map mean?
As you can see on the map at the top of this page, we have used several categories to classify the different ways in which the vaccination passport is implemented across the world.
Here is a more detailed explanation of the different categories we have used:
Category | Explanation |
---|---|
Extended use of the vaccination passport nationwide | The vaccination passport is applied in the whole country in many places and situations. |
Limited use of the vaccination passport nationwide | The vaccination passport is applied lightly in the whole country. It is required only in a few places and situations. |
Vaccination passport only in some regions | The vaccination passport is not applied in all regions of the country. This situation is particularly frequent in countries with a federal system. |
No vaccination passport applied | The country has decided not to use a vaccination passport. |
How is the vaccination passport applied in Canada?
The vaccination passport is not applied in the same way all over Canada. Depending on the province or territory, the vaccination passport can be required to access certain non-essential services within the province's or territory's borders as well as across Canada.
Here are some situations in which you may need a vaccination passport in Canada:
- Going to the restaurant , to the gym or attending some events
